About Abisola

Hello and welcome! I'm Abisola, a passionate and purpose-driven high school senior at Chadwick Academy in Palos Verdes, CA, with a deep commitment to healthcare, community service, and leadership.

My Story

Growing up in a family of healthcare providers—my mom a pharmacist, my grandmas nurses, and several relatives in medicine—my interest in health and healing started early. Living with asthma as a child, I vividly remember the compassion of caregivers during hospital visits. Those moments, along with accompanying my mom and grandma to hospitals, planted the seeds for my dream of becoming a medical doctor. The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic further deepened my empathy and strengthened my resolve to pursue medicine. I realized that beyond science, the true heart of healthcare lies in human connection.

Education & Academics

At Chadwick Academy, I’ve built an outstanding academic record, maintaining a 3.7 GPA while challenging myself with advanced coursework including AP Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, and Honors Spanish. My dedication to learning reflects not only a love for science but also resilience, motivation, and perseverance—personal success skills that have guided me through demanding studies. I am also an active member of the Sports Medicine Club, Fashion Club, and American Sign Language Club, while competing on both the basketball and softball teams.

Leadership & Service

My community matters deeply to me. Since 2021, I have served as a Youth Volunteer for the City of Gardena, supporting outreach initiatives and assisting with community events. In 2024, I was appointed as a Youth Commissioner, where I collaborate with city officials, lead discussions, and advocate for youth interests and inclusion. At Living Faith Christ Mission, I contribute to the Audio-Visual team, ensuring worship services run smoothly and meaningfully. I’m also part of the team currently developing the church’s new website.

I further strengthened my leadership through Pipeline Programs at Charles R. Drew University, including Community Health Youth Advocates and the Public Health Academy (PHCA) Cohort 6. There, I explored public health initiatives, worked to improve local community health, and addressed sexual and reproductive health justice issues through an internship experience.

More recently, I began volunteering at Torrance Hospital in California, where I assist patient services and staff to create a supportive, compassionate environment. This role has refined my communication, empathy, and ability to lead under pressure.

My service also extends globally—from a cultural exchange in South Korea, where I gained insight into global student wellness, to community engagement in Salamanca, Spain, which deepened my perspective on health equity and cross-cultural collaboration.

Looking Ahead

With strong academics, proven leadership, and the perseverance to overcome challenges, I aspire to become an OBGYN and contribute to groundbreaking research that improves women’s health and reduces disparities in underserved communities worldwide. I envision a future where science, service, and compassion intersect—just as they have in my own journey. Thank you for visiting my story; I hope it inspires you to pursue your own path with courage, dedication, and heart.

Dr. Dijanna Figueroa, Ph.D.

Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Chadwick School

Abisola is an exceptional student and a natural leader. Her compassionate and inclusive leadership has fostered a supportive environment where other Black female students can thrive within our predominantly white institution. As the advisor for the Black Girl Magic affinity group, I’ve had the privilege of watching her evolve into a dynamic force—revitalizing the program with her creativity, dedication, and persistence, and broadening its impact beyond its original scope. In my role as Director of Summer STEM Programs, I’ve also observed Abisola’s intellectual curiosity and eagerness to engage with challenging concepts in science, technology, and engineering—clear signs of her promising future in STEM.
